　　Grain Buds (Chinese: 小满), the 8th solar term of a year, begins today (May 21), and will end on June 5.

　　每年公历5月20—22日交节，太阳达黄经60°，小满就悄然降临了。南方有一句民谚：“小满小满，江河渐满。”小满期间，南方通常时晴时雨，雨水宛如相思的泪水，浸润山泽；北方往往晴空万里，气温迅速攀升，渐渐追赶上南方。

　　Every year around May 20-22 when the sun reaches the celestial longitude of 60°, the second solar term of summer, Grain Buds arrives. A proverb in south China goes that "during the Grain Buds period, the rivers gradually fill with water". During this period, the weather is uncertain in the south while it is usually sunny in the north.

　　古人把小满分为三候：“一候苦菜秀，二候靡草死，三候麦秋至。”农作物收获的时节一般是秋天，但小麦却在夏天成熟。小满前后，小麦“入秋”，籽粒开始灌浆，但还未完全饱满。

　　Ancient Chinese described this solar term as: first, the sow thistle is leafy and ready to be picked; second, shade-loving grasses will wither due to the strong sunshine; third, the wheat will be ripe soon, despite the fact that crops usually ripen in autumn.

　　此时，南方与北方就像一对迢迢相望的恋人，感情不断升温，但又如同麦穗般将满未满。
